City of Mt. Fuji, Ocean, and People
Fuji City is a beautiful and warm city on the east side of Shizuoka Prefecture. It looks up to world cultural heritage Mt. Fuji in the north, with Suruga Bay stretching out before it to the south. Because it is blessed with plenty of high-quality groundwater from Mt. Fuji, from long ago Fuji City has been known for its papercraft and paper manufacturing.

- Ryuganbuchi
- Ryuganbuchi, the area around Urui River’s Ryugan Bridge, was so named because after a heavy rain the river flows like a dragon. Along the Urui River, rows of cherry trees and rapeseed flowers blossom in spring. The view of Mt. Fuji standing proudly in the background is superb.

- Fuji City Forest Cemetery Park
- This cemetery park is managed by the city. It is surrounded by nature. Its flowers flourish in spring, blooming later than those in the city center at the base of Mt. Fuji. Mid-April is usually the best time to see them. You can see majestic Mt. Fuji from the cemetery park; in winter, its snow-topped peak will take your breath away.

- Obuchi Sasaba
- This well-known spot has a fantastic view of majestic Mt. Fuji rising behind a vast tea plantation. It is becoming a popular photo spot, with its view across the tea plantation that includes only a few utility poles, and no unsightly power lines. The best time to visit is from mid-April to mid-May when most of the new leaves appear.

- Bishamonten
- The “Myoho-ji” temple, of the Nichiren sect, is commonly known as “Bisyamon-san.” This name originally referred to the Chinju-do hall on the temple’s property, but now the whole temple area is also called “Bisyamon-san.” The grand festival held here January 7-9 of the lunar calendar is considered one of the “Three Greatest Daruma Doll Festivals in Japan.”

- Odana Falls + Bungy (Bungee?jumping)
- This waterfall in Sudo River Valley, with a fall of about 21 meters, has plenty of water and makes a powerful impact. The Sudo River Valley Bridge is called the “Bridge Built Over the Sky.” From its height of 54 m you can experience bungee jumping as you face Odana Falls.

- Gakunan Electric Train (Gakunan Harada Station)
- The Gakunan Railway Line is a local line that links 10 stations (9.2 km). It takes about 20 minutes to ride from Yoshiwara Station to Gakunan Enoo Station. You can see Mt. Fuji from each station. In the vicinity of Gakunan Harada Station you can visit spots like Yomeiji Temple, and take walks through Yoroigafuchi Water Park, where groundwater from Mt. Fuji wells up.

- Fujirokushosengen Shrine
- From long ago, this shrine has been venerated as the village shrine of Gakunan that watches over the southern base of Mt. Fuji. Ever since the prayer for safe childbirth for the empress of the 52nd Emperor Saga was offered here, this shrine has been especially revered for its god of safe childbirth. This is the only Beppyo Jinja (shrine on the special list) of the Association of Shinto Shrines in Fuji City. The sacred tree on the shrine’s property, a great camphor tree, is a protected natural monument of Shizuoka Prefecture.

- Tagonoura Shirasu (Young sardines)
- There are many restaurants and stores along the highway that runs from Tagonoura Fishing Port to the west where you can sample shirasu (young sardines), the Tagonoura specialty. This highway is known as “Mt. Fuji Shirasu Highway.” Tagonoura Shirasu is registered in the Geographical Indication (GI) Protection System of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, which protects regional specialties. Freshly caught raw shirasu is especially delicious.

- Fujinokuni Tagonoura Minato Park
- This park, located on Tagonoura Coast, is equipped with equipment for athletics and for children to play on. The symbol tower “Mt. Fuji Dragon Tower (37.76 m high)” is gaining popularity as a spot where you can enjoy its 360-degree panoramic view from Mt. Fuji to Suruga Bay.

- Tokaido Shinkansen Fujikawa Bridge
- This JR Central Tokaido Shinkansen bridge spans Fuji River, one of the three great rapid rivers in Japan. About 3 km towards Shizuoka Station from Shin-Fuji Station, it is a famous spot for taking videos and photos of Shinkansen trains as they pass over Fuji River, with Mt. Fuji in the background.

- Roadside Station Fujikawa Rakuza
- The restaurants, cafes, and souvenir shops here have great views of Mt. Fuji, and access is easy from the Tomei Expressway and local roads. This roadside-shop complex draws visitors of all ages. In addition to the large parking lot, there also is a hands-on exhibit hall and a planetarium.
